For Ages:
2 to 4 yrs.
Purpose:
We are trying to develop muscles in their hands. This will help their gross and fine motor skills.  We are also trying to develop eye/hand coordination. This will be an exposure to using their imaginations.

Materials:
1 container of play doug
     any color
1 old plastic place mat to
     protect the table OR
1 cookie sheet with sides

Instructions:
Play dough shouldn’t be used by children by themselves under the age of 3 years. Before the age of 3, children need to be taught how to use play dough properly. That means you as an adult need to sit and play with them.
You need to establish “play dough rules” with your child to meet yours and your household’s needs. As you sit with your child throughout their second year, use the play dough with them and reinforce YOUR rules. As your child turns 3, s/he will know the rules and be able to play alone.
Teach your child how to roll small pieces of the dough into ropes. The ropes can be made into shapes, letters or numbers. You can also show your child how to pinch the dough into 3-D animals, vehicles, people, buildings. This will help them begin to use their imaginations as they play with you. Try to do this activity regularly through out their second year. Enjoy your time together.
